Syn‐ and post‐eruptive gully formation near the Laacher See volcano

چکیده
The Laacher See volcano (LSV) is located at the western margin of Neuwied Basin, central part Middle Rhine Basin Germany. Its paroxysmal Plinian eruption c. 13 ka ago (Laacher event; LSE) deposited a complex tephra sequence in whilst distal ashes became one most important chronostratigraphic markers Central Europe. However, some other impacts on landscape formation have thus far been largely neglected, such as buried gully structures proximity LSV. In this contribution, we map and discuss spatial extent these landforms site Lungenkärchen 4 km south LSV based geophysical prospection well contrasting pedo-sedimentary characteristics infill (particle-size distribution, bulk-sediment density, thin-section analysis, saturated hydraulic conductivity) surrounding soils layers. These data are combined with luminescence- carbon-14 (14C)-based age model that relates them to LSE. It demonstrated how gullies seem formed rapidly infilled by rainfall surface discharge both during subsequent eruptive phase, modern analog processes documented for 1980 Mount St Helens (Washington State, USA). Given density their deviating properties compared soils, propose significant influence agricultural production LSV, which remains be tested future studies. Finally, contrast, similar lateral vertical dimensions identified post-LSE reworked loess deposits Wingertsbergwand (close main study proximal LSV) shown unrelated LSE can either attributed periglacial Younger Dryas-Preboreal transition or linear incision early Holocene.

Laacher See revisited: High-spatial-resolution zircon dating indicates rapid formation of a zoned magma chamber
High-spatial-resolution (230Th)/(238U) disequilibrium dating reveals rapid zircon crystallization prior to the 12,900 yr B.P. Laacher See (Germany) phonolite eruption. Zircons from Lower Laacher See tephra (LLST) and syenitic subvolcanic nodules share REE and low U/Th characteristics and define an isochron age of 17.1 1.3 ka (1 ). Zircons also show higher initial (Th)/(Th)0 and oxygen isotopic ...
متن کاملGully Formation on Mars and Earth: the Transition from Glacial Activity to Gully Depositional Phases
Introduction: The discovery of gullies on Mars [1,2] resulted in a wide variety of proposed candidate mechanisms for formation but ensuing analyses have shown very strong latitude and orientation dependencies on their distributions [3-6]. These constraints have been interpreted to require: 1) a volatile on or near the surface as a source of liquid water, and 2) insolation and slope orientation ...

DistributedDenial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks seriously threat the servers in the Internet. Most of current research is focused on the detection and preventionmethods at the victim side or the source side. However, defense at the innocent side, whose IP is used as the spoofed IP by the attacker, is always ignored. In this paper, a novelmethod at the innocent side has been proposed. Our detection s...
